Privacy policy

The Purpose Plant LLC ("The Purpose Plant," "we," "us," or "our"), a Florida limited liability company, operates thepurposeplant.com (the "Site"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain language on purpose.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us:

Order and contact details — your name, email address, phone number, billing address, and shipping address.
Gift recipient details — if your order is a gift, the recipient's name and shipping address, and the personal message you write for the meaning card. We use recipient information only to deliver the gift, and card messages only to print the card.
Payment information — payments are processed by our payment providers (such as Shopify Payments). We never see or store your full card number.
Email signup — your email address if you subscribe to our newsletter ("Care notes & quiet reminders").
Messages you send us — anything you share when you contact us.

Information collected automatically:

Device and usage data — IP address, browser type, pages viewed, referring site, and how you interact with the Site, collected through cookies and similar technologies.
Cookies — small files that keep your cart working, remember preferences, and help us understand how the Site is used. Our ecommerce platform (Shopify) sets cookies necessary for the store to function.

2. How we use your information

To process, fulfill, and deliver your orders, including sharing shipping details with our nursery and fulfillment partners and shipping carriers.
To print your meaning card message and include it with the plant.
To send order confirmations, shipping notifications, and service messages.
To send our newsletter and care reminders only if you opted in — every email includes an unsubscribe link.
To respond to your questions and honor the Happy-Plant Promise (photos you send us of a damaged plant are used to process your replacement or refund).
To understand how the Site is used and improve it.
To advertise our store, including measuring ad performance (see Section 4).
To prevent fraud and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information for money.

3. Who we share information with

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the store, and only what they need to do their job:

Shopify — hosts our store and processes orders.
Payment processors — to process your payment.
Nursery and fulfillment partners — receive the recipient's name and shipping address (and the card message, so it can be included) to pack and ship your order. They may not use this information for their own marketing.
Shipping carriers — receive delivery details to deliver your package.
Email service providers — to send order emails and, if you subscribed, our newsletter.
Analytics and advertising partners — see Section 4.
Legal and safety — we may disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, our customers, or others.

4. Advertising and analytics

We use analytics tools to understand how visitors use the Site, and we run ads on platforms such as Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and Google. These platforms use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies on our Site to measure ad performance and show you relevant ads elsewhere. This kind of ad measurement may be considered "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some state privacy laws, and you can opt out — see Section 6.

You can also limit ad tracking through your browser settings, your device's ad settings, and industry tools such as optout.aboutads.info.

5. How long we keep information

We keep order records as long as needed for business, tax, and legal purposes. Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe. Gift card messages are kept only as long as needed to fulfill the order and handle any issues with it. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (Section 6).

6. Your privacy rights and choices

Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states with privacy laws), you may have the right to:

Know / access the personal information we have about you.
Correct inaccurate information.
Delete your personal information.
Opt out of targeted advertising or the "sharing" of your information for cross-context ads.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@thepurposeplant.com with the subject line "Privacy request," or use the "Your Privacy Choices" link in our Site footer. We will verify your request using the email associated with your orders and respond within the time required by your state's law. We will never treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights.

Marketing emails: unsubscribe anytime using the link in any newsletter email.

Cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; parts of the Site (like the cart) may not work without essential cookies.

7. Children

The Site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We use reputable providers (Shopify, established payment processors) and reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but payment details are handled entirely by PCI-compliant payment processors.

9. Where we operate

The Purpose Plant is based in Florida, United States, and the Site is intended for U.S. customers. Your information is processed and stored in the United States.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be posted here with its effective date. If we make material changes, we will post a notice on the Site or email you.
